When Love Feels Heavy: Unpacking the Caregiver’s Heart
Caregiving asks everything of us. And in that everything, we often lose something of ourselves. This workshop is an invitation to pause, exhale, and be in community with others who understand the weight of this life and the contradictions it brings.
Through grounding somatic practices and group exercises drawn from Rainbow of Desire, a methodology from Augusto Boal’s Theatre of the Oppressed, we’ll express what’s often unspoken and reconnect to the intelligence of our bodies. This is not theatre as in acting for actors - but instead a format for expressing deeper (sometimes intentionally buried) truths.
No experience is needed—just a willingness to show up as you are.
By the end of our time together, we hope our hearts will feel a little lighter, our bodies a little more alive, and our lives enriched through learning from each other, as people who are going through this unique and often isolating experience.
Acknowledging our deep need for rest, this workshop will be both an invitation to repose, receive care and using Rainbow of Desire from Theatre of the Oppressed to explore some of the many conflicting feelings or “care-adoxes” we experience as caregivers like:
love // resentment
closeness // isolation
gratitude // grief
inexhaustible fierceness // deep exhaustion
giving your all // never giving enough
